Five convictions for violence and single charges of shoplifting and failing to attend court brought a 25-month jail term for Jamie Allan Gough (24), unemployed, when sentenced in the Dunedin District Court yesterday. He had admitted a Crimes Act assault on Katy Mae Phillips on July 7 last year; assaulting Miss Phillips with intent to injure her, on July 9; stealing a $13.35 wine bladder from Pak’N Save, and injuring security officer John Burnip with intent to avoid apprehension after committing the theft, on August 6; a Crimes Act assault on Miss Phillips, and a Crimes Act assault on Amy Maree Morgan, on August 25; and failing to attend court on October 4.
Judge Neil MacLean, of Hamilton, imposed jail terms as follows: Assault July 7, two months; assault with intent to injure, six months, cumulative; theft, one month, concurrent; assault with intent to avoid apprehension, eight months, cumulative; the two August 25 assaults, eight months, concurrent with each other but cumulative on the other sentences; failing to attend court, one month, cumulative. Gough had been in custody since mid-November, the judge noted.
