A MAN who twice performed an indecent act on a young child received a jailsentence in the New Plymouth District Court yesterday.
Dion Craig Henry (34), unemployed, of New Plymouth, had earlier been foundguilty by a jury of two charges of doing an indecent act on a child.The offending occurred last year.
In court yesterday, Judge Allan Roberts said Henry had no apparent remorse forwhat he had done. "The consequences for this child will remain ongoing," Judge Roberts said.He sentenced Henry to six months' jail.
Judge Roberts also cancelled 360 hours of outstanding community work,sentencing Henry to a further two months' prison and gave him another six weeksin lieu of $1970 in outstanding fines. Those two sentences were cumulative on the six months

A NEW PLYMOUTH man waited until a fellow hospital patient was wheeled away forsurgery before stealing his credit card and sprinting off to buy a diamondring.
Dion Craig Henry (34) admitted a charge of theft and two charges of obtaininggoods by deception when he appeared before Judge Louis Bidois in the NewPlymouth District Court. The court heard Henry had been waiting for surgery himself, when anotherpatient was taken away.
Sensing an opportunity, Henry stole a credit card from the victim's toilet bag.He then rushed into town and bought two cellphones and an $1800 diamond ring. Judge Bidois told Henry he had the option of a three or four- month jailsentence or a long sentence of community work. Henry said he deserved to be punished with a long sentence of community work, which Judge Bidois agreed to. He was given 240 hours.
