Hawkes Bay Today story here.
Hiha and two other offenders who attended a gathering had been drinking that day were evidently looking for trouble. They attacked the male victim by punching him to the ground and started kicking him directly in the face with their steel-capped boots until he was unconscious. The offenders then raped and sexually abused the two women. One of the women was also sodomised. Hiha was jailed for 12 years for this offence including the attack on the womens male companion. Hiha was acquitted in August 2000 of raping a 16 year old girl in Maraenui in December 1999.
For the 2003 offence Hiha invited the victim (who was heavily under the influence of drugs and alcohol at the time) into his house for coffee and they had been smoking cannabis together. As the victim tried to leave Hiha then began raping her. Hiha admitted to having sex with victim after his DNA was found on the victim but Hiha claimed it was "consensual". This claim however was rejected by the jury who found him guilty of the offence in the Napier High Court. After was locked up indefinitely a Hawkes Bay Today report stated: "The court was told yesterday that during 20 years with the Mongrel Mob, Hiha had clocked up 87 convictions."
