Kevin Moana Jarden (Deceased)
Jarden's criminal history stretched back to the 1960s. It includes more than 80 convictions, many for sexual offences. At the time of his death, Jarden was serving a 10-year sentence for sexually abusing three young girls while on home detention. In 2006, while already in prison, he was sentenced to 8 1/2 years for raping a 20-year-old woman after breaking into a Christchurch house in 1988.
In the late 1980s, Jarden twice abducted and molested a 15-year-old Christchurch girl. Throughout, the girl defended Jarden. In one case, seven charges were thrown out after she gave evidence supporting him. In 1990, Jarden was convicted of indecent exposure. He was jailed for 18 months for indecently assaulting a woman. In 1992, he was given periodic detention for intimidating a woman who tried to end a relationship with him after three weeks. When she broke off the affair, Jarden threatened to kill or kneecap her husband. Last year, Jarden's brother, Wayne, was sentenced to 15 years in jail for two Christchurch home-invasion rapes.
