Rodney James Leslie Tepu
NZ Herald story here
Note: we have been advised that the media stories are inaccurate in parts, namely that Tepu was not under the influence of any substance when he committed the murder. He had beaten her over 6-8 hours the night before he stabbed her to death. The substance abuse was not the cause of this killing.
In court yesterday, Tepu was also sentenced to two years' jail for causing Ms Ihaka grievous bodily harm with intent. The sentences are to be served concurrently.
Ms Ihaka died on November 27 last year after Tepu (24) saw police bringing her home after she had laid an assault complaint against him. Tepu admitted he meant to hurt her and stabbed her repeatedly using two knives, one of which he left embedded in her back.
