Sentenced to two years imprisonment for indecently assaulted a girl who was then aged 13 years 11 months on 1 December 1993 at Taumarunui. He was a family member and regarded by the young girl as her “uncle”. They were on a Marae attending a tangi.
Original sentence was quashed on appeal and a sentence of 15 months imprisonment was substituted.
In the interim, in December 1994, Neville Barrett was also convicted of indecently assaulting a girl over the age of 16 years and sentenced to a term of imprisonment of 15 months.
