Calvin Grant Crutchley
A Papamoa man will finally be sent to prison this week after an alleged failed attempt to escape.
Calvin Grant Crutchley, 41, was scheduled to appear in Tauranga District Court, via audio-visual link, today after his brief escape on February 20.
However, Judge Thomas Ingram adjourned the latest sentencing after Crutchley's lawyer, Rebekah Webby, said she didn't have full disclosure on raft of new charges.
The charges include possessing methamphetamine for supply, cultivating cannabis, possessing utensils for both methamphetamine and cannabis and unlawfully possessing a pistol.
After being sentenced to five years in prison in February for possessing a firearm and possessing cannabis for sale, Crutchley allegedly escaped from custody, sparking a large police chase as he fled on foot down Elizabeth Street to the Waikareao Estuary.
Multiple police units responded to calls of a man on the run from the courts.
But his escape was short-lived, and he was apprehended by police on the mud flats of the estuary after about 20 minutes.
