Five men have been found guilty of manslaughter in relation to the death of Auckland woman Jindarat Prutsiriporn. Prutsiriporn, 50, died when she fell, bound and gagged, from the boot of a moving car in Papatoetoe, south Auckland, in 2016. An underground crime unit was alleged to have carried out her kidnapping on February 29 last year. The six men on trial in the High Court at Auckland. Five of the six men were found guilty on all charges, while a sixth was found not guilty of kidnapping. The verdicts come after almost two days deliberation by the jury. Throughout the trial, the Crown alleged bad blood had formed between drug dealer Prutsiriporn and defendant Seng Lek Liev. The Crown said Liev was the mastermind behind the kidnapping plot, and he engaged a unit within the Head Hunters gang, known as the "Ghost Unit", to snatch Prutsiriporn. The group had attempted to kidnap Prutsiriporn on February 15, but had failed when police found the group waiting outside her house. Two weeks later, the group lured her to a car outside her house under the ruse of a drug deal. It was at this point that Prutsiriporn was dragged out of the car to another waiting car by a member of the Ghost Unit. The court heard she was held in different locations for about 22 hours until she escaped from a car boot on March 1 about 7.30pm. She used a chef's steel to force the boot open. When the car accelerated, she fell out and suffered a blow to the head, which resulted in her death. The Crown never alleged her death was intentional. All of the defendants, including Seng Lek Liev, denied their various involvement in the crime. STUFF Last updated 16:05, July 12 2017
